One small and relatively inexpensive part that can cause a big headache on a common rail diesel is the valve that controls fuel flow into the injection pump.
The most common pump is the Bosch CP3, but a Bosch CP4 was also used, and the oddball pumps were the Siemens K16 and Denso HP4 (6.4 Powerstroke and L5P Duramax respectively). Every common rail diesel uses a high-pressure injection pump, and over the last two decades, there have been several different pumps used from various manufacturers.
